Job Title: Team Lead, Career Coach (Part-Time) Location: The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) Career Center Position Overview:
The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) Career Center is seeking an experienced and dynamic Team Lead, Career Coach(Part-Time). This role will oversee the Part-Time Career Coaches and will be responsible for leading initiatives related to career exploration, career development, internship search, and professional career goals for both students and alumni as it relates to the Part-Time Career Coaches. In addition, the Team Lead will develop and facilitate career development workshops, collaborate with Career Center staff to create targeted programming, and establish training and processes for the part-time career coaches.
Key Responsibilities:
● Supervision and Leadership:
○ Oversee and mentor the Part-Time Career Coaches, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
○ Develop training programs and processes to ensure that part-time career coaches are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively support students and alumni.
○ Ensure that coaching sessions and services provided by the Career Center meet the highest standards of quality and effectiveness.
○ Collaborate with Career Center leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance career services for students and alumni.
● Career Development Workshops:
○ Develop and facilitate workshops and seminars on various career-related topics such as resume writing, job search strategies, networking, and career planning.
○ Collaborate with Career Center staff to design and deliver targeted programming to meet the specific needs of different populations, including first-year students, seniors, and alumni.
○ Evaluate the effectiveness of workshops and programs, making adjustments based on feedback and outcomes.
● Career Counseling and Advising:
○ Provide one-on-one and group career coaching sessions (virtual and in-person) to students and alumni as needed, assisting them with career exploration, goal setting, and decision-making.
○ Guide students and alumni in developing and refining resumes, cover letters, personal statements, and LinkedIn profiles.
○ Conduct mock interviews and offer constructive feedback to enhance interviewing skills.
● Resource Management and Development:
○ Oversee the use and promotion of career development resources such as Handshake, The Big Interview, and FOCUS2 within the Career Coach Team.
○ Stay informed about industry trends and job market developments to provide relevant advice and resources to students, alumni, and staff.
○ Assist in maintaining the Career Center’s online job board (Handshake) and other digital resources, ensuring they are up-to-date and aligned with the needs of the TCNJ community.
● Program Coordination and Collaboration:
○ Coordinate with Career Center staff to ensure the successful implementation of career services and programs.
○ Promote Career Center events and activities to increase student and alumni engagement with available resources and opportunities.
● Administrative and Reporting Duties:
○ Maintain accurate records of coaching sessions, workshops, and other career services.
○ Assist with data collection and reporting on outcomes, program effectiveness, and student/alumni success.
○ Participate in regular team meetings and collaborate with Career Center leadership on various projects and initiatives.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Career Counseling, Human Resources, Psychology, Education).
● Relevant industry experience in one or more fields related to the areas of study or career interests of students and alumni.
● Experience in developing and implementing training programs and processes.
● Previous experience in career counseling, advising, or related roles, with demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating career development workshops.
● Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to manage and develop a team.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, alumni, and staff.
● Knowledge of career development theories, job search strategies, and employment trends.
● Familiarity with career-related tools and platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Handshake, The Big Interview, FOCUS2).
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Commitment to student and alumni success and professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in Counseling, Career Development, or a related field.
● Experience working with college students, young professionals, and alumni.
● Certification in career coaching or related areas (e.g., NCDA Certified Career Counselor, GCDF).
● Previous experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
Work Schedule:
● This is a part-time position, with approximately 15 hours per week. Flexible hours based on the needs of the Career Center, students, and alumni. Some evening or weekend hours may be required.
