The Department of Social Work and Sociology (SW&S) within the
John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences
at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C.
A&T) invites applications and nominations for the position of
Interim Department Chair. The Department Chair is a 12-month
position that reports to the Dean of the Hairston College of Health
and Human Sciences and serves as the chief administrative and
academic leader of the department. The Department Chair will be
expected to provide visionary leadership of innovative programs
with strong educator-researcher emphasis. In addition to the
general oversight of the department, they will be responsible for
strategic planning; budget development, management and allocation;
recruitment and retention of faculty and students; faculty, staff,
and student development; management and improvement of curricula;
evaluating faculty performance; program assessments and reviews,
obtaining and maintaining accreditation; developing external
partnerships; interacting with other departments and university
leaders to represent the goals of the department. The chairperson
must implement strategies to develop research infrastructure,
teaching-learning environments and approaches to facilitate service
and engagement. Other responsibilities include oversight of course
schedules, faculty evaluations and supervision of departmental
staff; and providing leadership and vision for the department. The
Department Chair is also expected to conduct research in their area
of expertise and publish in refereed journals and/or conference
proceedings. teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within the
Department (reduced teaching load) and serve on departmental,
college, and university level committees. The Chairperson is a
12-month tenure-track position that reports to the Dean.
