Position Details

The Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance within the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position with expertise in Exercise Science, beginning in August 2025.

Teaching: The ideal candidate for this position will be committed to teaching various courses in exercise science, nutrition science, and human performance. Depending on the candidate's expertise and departmental need, courses may include subjects such as Sports Nutrition, Resistance Training Strength and Conditioning, Data Analytics and Biomechanics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in lower and upper-division undergraduate courses and in hybrid courses (i.e., online and face-to-face lectures) in the Exercise and Nutritional Sciences graduate program. Experience with the program accreditation process would be desirable. Members of the faculty are expected to create engaging, inclusive learning environments that challenge students to reach their potential. Teaching load will be 24 credit/contact hours per year at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Opportunities for winter term and summer term teaching may be available.

Service and Student Involvement: We expect our colleagues to fully engage with the institution by providing and/or developing expertise that serves the broader needs of the institution as a requirement for this position. Community and professional service are also valued contributions, particularly where relevant to the discipline. Successful colleagues engage undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of activities as a means of providing greater depth and opportunity to the educational experience at the university. Faculty members also advise students each semester, providing important guidance for enrollment as well as career advice. Service: Experience with the program accreditation process would be desirable.

Scholarship: Tenure-track colleagues are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda appropriate to their field and the resources available at The University of Tampa. Modest start-up funds may be available. As one of the largest departments in the University, ample opportunities exist for collaboration within the department, and our faculty are routinely successful at securing internal grant funds to support research. Assistance is available to identify external grant sources, for grant writing, and identifying additional sources of funding for equipment and research funding that cannot be purchased with start-up funds.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Health Sciences and Human Performance or related discipline by August 2025. Candidates holding certifications as a Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and/or Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP) are desirable.

The candidate is expected to engage in scholarly activity, advise/mentor students, and participate in service to the department, college, University, and broader community.

The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
