Position Details

The Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance within the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa invites applications for a full-time teaching faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor beginning in August 2025. This is a non-tenure track position with opportunities for promotion.

Program Description

This position will have teaching and service requirements. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in emergency healthcare skills courses, such as Emergency Medical Response and CPR/AED/First Aid. There is also a potential to teach other introductory courses as needed by the department. Faculty members are expected to create engaging, inclusive learning environments that challenge students to reach their potential.

Teaching: The successful candidate will have potential for excellence in teaching, a critical area for our teaching-centered, primarily undergraduate institution. Applicants should be eager to create engaging, inclusive learning environments for our diverse student body that emphasize shared learning objectives across various subject areas within the health sciences. Students majoring in the department choose from many health science programs, along with minors populated by students from across the university. Each candidate will be expected to teach 27 contact hours per academic year. Opportunities for winter term and summer teaching may be available.

Service and Student Involvement: We expect our colleagues to fully engage with the institution by providing and developing expertise that serves the broader needs of the institution as a requirement for this position. Community and professional service are also valued contributions, particularly where relevant to the discipline. Successful colleagues engage undergraduate students in a variety of activities as a means of providing greater depth and opportunity to the educational experience at the university. Faculty members also advise students each semester, providing necessary guidance for enrollment and career advice.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a professional degree in Athletic Training, Physician Assistant Medicine, Nursing, or medicine and hold instructor certifications with the American Red Cross or similar organizations, like the American Heart Association. Exceptional candidates with a Master's degree and current instructor certification will be considered. Candidates should have the ability to teach emergency skills in healthcare courses and other related classes in the department. American Red Cross instructor certification in Emergency Medical Response is mandatory by the start of employment. For eligibility criteria, please see prerequisites:

The ideal candidate for this position will have demonstrated expertise in emergency/acute care. Prior in-person teaching experience and a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in lower and upper-division undergraduate courses are preferred. Preferential consideration will be given to those with experience teaching in-person emergency care for healthcare professionals.

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
