Job Description

This position is responsible for overseeing and managing all ten (10) budgets for Student Engagement & Traditions. This includes training on budget use and compliance with the Student Government Association and Commonwealth policies and procedures, loading budgets, processing funds, reporting and analysis, forecasting, and day to day operations. This position also supervises a full time Fiscal Tech that is responsible for handling budgets and paperwork for approximately 150 clubs and organizations.

Considerable knowledge of general accounting practices and principles. Working knowledge of effective customer service techniques serving diverse internal and external customers. Working knowledge of financial systems or PC-related software and information systems to include Microsoft Office Suite and Banner or a comparable program. Basic knowledge of the principles and practices of budget formulation, evaluation, and execution. Effective oral and written communications skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills including filing and maintaining records.Demonstrated ability to foresee potential budgetary problems. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting.Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and work independently and complete tasks with limited direction or supervision.
Demonstrated ability to record and manipulate data produce reports using financial systems along with exercising judgement and making decisions.Demonstrated ability to apply strategic thinking and identify trends revealed through data collection.

Level and type of experience

Basic experience as an accountant, bookkeeper, and/or other related position maintaining and/or processing financial records, preparing financial reports, and analysis of financial transactions. Basic experience using general electronic data management systems such as spreadsheets and bookkeeping or financial software for budget management. Some experience managing one or more office budgets.

Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)

Considerable experience in a University administrative office managing multiple budgets. Considerable experience with Commonwealth of Virginia budget and budget processes. Considerable experience with Microsoft Excel for budget management. Demonstrated ability to lead and direct the work of others. Working knowledge of university software system BANNER . Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.

Conditions of Employment

Given the nature of the positions in Student Engagement & Enrollment Services that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing as directed by his or her supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e. telework, etc.).

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
Salary range between $ - 42,905 - 52,000
