Position Summary
The Department of Food Science and Technology ( FST ) at the University of Georgia ( UGA ) is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to develop a Research and Extension program in food process engineering. We are recruiting for the Koehler-Ayres Professorship in Food Engineering, and the holder must be an internationally recognized scientist with an established record of published research and scholarship. The successful candidate will be a 9-month, full-time, fully tenured professor (75% Research, 20% Extension, 5% Service) with an exemplary research and extension portfolio that inspire new and existing collaborations . The successful applicant will be a leading expert in sustainable food manufacturing systems sustainability research. Their research focus should be complementary but distinct from the research conducted by our current faculty.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded Research and Extension program and establish an internationally recognized program in sustainable food and beverage manufacturing relevant to the local, national, and international food industry sector. Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to): (1) obtaining extramural funds to support Research and Extension programs, (2) establishing a strong record of scholarly activity and peer-reviewed publications, (3) directing graduate (PhD and MS degree) students and postdoctoral associates, and (4) developing an Extension program to complement the Food Product Innovation & Commercialization Center (FoodPIC) and existing Extension programs within FST . The candidate will be expected to actively participate in service activities in FST, CAES, and UGA including global programs. The University of Georgia recognizes and supports interdisciplinary programs. As such, the incumbent will be encouraged to collaborate with other faculty members across the Colleges of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, and Family and Consumer Sciences as well as other colleges.

Expertise in novel food processing technologies including packaging and food engineering, ingredient functionality, food formulation and the ability to integrate aforementioned expertise into a holistic food, ingredient and system design is preferred.
We particularly seek candidates whose research is comprehensive, collaborative and who apply systems approaches to address sustainability and profitability challenges in areas such as the circular economy; energy-efficient processing; resource-efficient processing; smart and edible packaging; sustainable preservation; alternative proteins; green extraction technologies; urban agriculture; food waste minimization, recovery, and upcycling; life-cycle and techno-economic analysis; intelligent supply chain and distribution systems; sustainable intensification of food production and processing; strategies to mitigate the environmental footprint in the food supply chain; food waste utilization and upcycling; or value-added food products manufacturing at an affordable price.
The candidate must demonstrate a track record of a highly successful extramurally funded research and extension program, excellent oral and written communication competencies, interpersonal skills, and willingness to lead and work in multidisciplinary teams.
