Graduate Assistant (Research), Sociology and Criminology General Summary

The Research Graduate Assistant performs research as a majority of their service. Working closely with one or more faculty members, assist with scholarly activities or research. Potentially included all phases of research from design through literature review, data collection, analysis, writing, and preparation/presentation of findings.

The Research Graduate Assistant receives a stipend and a tax-exempt tuition waiver.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist university faculty/staff with research-related projects or assignments that require the advanced discipline skill of graduate students.
  • Other departmental related duties (e.g., assisting with teaching duties) as required.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work up to 20 hours per week (10 hrs. for 50% assistantship) is required.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
  • Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.
  • Admission and enrollment in a graduate program at Eastern Michigan University is required.
  • Enrollment in at least 6 credits for Fall and Winter semesters is required.

  • Applying for admission or currently enrolled in either the Criminology MA Program, Sociology MA Program, or School, Society & Violence MA Program.

Note: GA position would begin in late August 2024 for the Fall Semester. Priority application deadline is April 30, 2024 with applications considered on a rolling basis after that point.
