Job Summary
The Department of Communication at Georgia College is seeking a Lecturer in Mass Communication. The person's teaching responsibilities will be to teach Broadcast Journalism, Media Law, and other Mass Communication courses. The Departent of Communication at Georgia College and State University invites applications for a full-time lecturer (non-tenure track, renewable. Promotion to Senior lecturer possible.)
The ideal Candidate will teach media law and journalism classes in the context of an undergraduate curriculum, and advise our student-run media, which includes The Colonnade, our newspaper; Bobcat Multimedia, our online news site; and GC360, our television newscast.
Additional preferred qualifications include candidates with a background in sports media including broadcast journalism, and/or radio/TV sports broadcasting.
Georgia College is the public liberal arts college in the University System of Georgia, and is one of three selective institutions within the system. The Department of Communication has 14 full-time faculty members and over 300 majors. The department offers a major in mass communication with emphases in strategic communication (public relations and advertising), journalism, and film/television/audio production. The department also offers a major and minor in rhetoric, and a documentary studies certificate. The department is housed in Terrell Hall, which was renovated in 2020, and contains a state-of-the-art broadcast studio, along with a radio station and podcast studio.
This position carries a non tenure track status.

Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.
Faculty employees also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. Educational Requirements
A Ph.D. (terminal degree) in the discipline taught at the time of the appointment is expected.
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))
Required Qualifications
-Applicants must have a terminal degree in communication or a closely related field by the date of appointment.
-Candidates should have significant experience in journalism, with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality news content across various media platforms (print, digital, broadcast, or radio). This includes a solid foundation in news writing, editing, and multimedia storytelling, along with practical knowledge of journalistic ethics and practices.
-Candidates should be able to teach a Media Law course as well as other journalism courses in our undergraduate curriculum.
-Candidates will advise student media
