Social Media Specialist

Job Summary

Develop and maintain the College of Law's online social networking and digital media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter) to help achieve marketing and communications goals. Create, monitor and manage content—including text, photo/video, and graphics—for social media outlets and digital media distribution. Edit and filter inappropriate content and report or address Web abuse. Facilitate discussions or respond to inquiries. Analyze and report usage statistics. Provide feedback and analysis to management.
This position will help tell the story of what makes the College of Law unique and impactful, covering subjects such as the college community, student life and accomplishments, faculty news, college events, and other noteworthy topics. The position will contribute to a strong and engaging institutional voice for the college as we engage with our most important audiences, including prospective students, alumni, peer institutions, and current students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities
1. Develops and executes social media communications plans.
2. Develops and communicates information about the College of Law to its stakeholders, both internal and external.
3. Manages the research and development of content for digital publication, including writing, photography, videography and graphics.
4. Responsible for monitoring effectiveness of social media communication tactics and adjusting communication plans as necessary.
5. Collaborates with the College of Law's marketing and communications team and other clientele within the college to conceptualize on various projects.
6. Proofreads all social media communications and monitors social media accounts.
7. Develops and adheres to project timelines.
8. Ensures that distributed material is accurate and timely.
9. May perform other related duties as assigned, including photo shoots, assisting with communications campaigns, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

Some areas may require additional experience with specific computer systems and may require skills in interviewing, ad copy writing, editing, photography, web writing, graphic design, audio & video production, and oral presentation.

Master's degree in a related field may be preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences
  • Exceptional writing skills, particularly in institutional communications (e.g. for a university, organization, company, etc.).
  • Experience managing social media accounts on behalf of an institution.
  • Experience with photography, videography and graphic design for the web, especially for social media.
