Job Summary
The University of Texas at Tyler, a dynamic and growing institution committed to fostering academic excellence and innovation, invites applications for the position of Writing Center Director, Assistant Professor of Rhetoric & Composition (Tenure-Track). This position will start with the Fall 2025 semester. Load: 3/2 with summer duties in the Writing Center
The Search Committee will begin reviewing applications on Monday, November 4., and the position will remain open until filled.
Essential Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Experience in Writing Center Administration (scheduling and appointment programs, budget management, tutor training, development, management, assessment)
- Experience in teaching two or more of the following: developmental writing, first-year composition, creative writing, business writing
- Experience in working collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and administrative offices
- Experience in developing and teaching developmental and / or first-year writing curriculum
- Experience in teaching Writing Center pedagogy and composition theory (undergraduate & graduate)
- Experience in Assessment of Development Programs and / or First-Year Writing
- Experience in face-to-face and online tutoring and teaching (undergraduate & graduate)
- Published scholarship in the field of Composition & Rhetoric
Required Qualifications
- Terminal degree in Rhetoric & Composition
- Recognized record of scholarly achievement
- Successful record of administrating a Writing Center
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.
- Proven ability in building trust through collaborative decision-making, embracing shared governance, and integrating with the community.
- Experience in leading within a higher education environment, supporting faculty, staff, and students.
- Demonstrated experience in academic assessment.

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
