The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) invites
applications for a tenure-track faculty position in surface
processes that influence the solid Earth. These processes are
broadly defined and include volcanism, geomorphology, hydrology,
cryosphere studies and natural and anthropogenic interactions with
land surfaces. Possible approaches include field, laboratory,
computational, and theoretical studies. We seek to attract an
individual who will establish an innovative research program and
teach both undergraduate and graduate students.
A doctorate or terminal degree in a field of science related to Earth's surface processes is required by the expected start date of July 1, 2025.
We also seek candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching. The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences celebrates the multiple dimensions of diversity that each member of our community offers, including diversity of background, perspective, and lived experience. We strongly welcome applications from persons from underrepresented groups.
Please submit applications online at: https://academicpositions.harvard.edu/postings/14208
Required materials include:
1. Cover letter
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. Teaching/advising statement that describes your philosophy and practices as well as your approach to creating a learning environment in which students are encouraged to ask questions and share their ideas
4. Research statement
5. Service statement describing efforts to strengthen academic communities
6. Names and contact information of 3-5 referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once your application has been submitted. Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as your undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor.
7. Up to 4 representative publications
Applications will be reviewed starting December 3, 2024.
Further information about the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences is available at http://www.eps.harvard.edu/. Address questions about the position to Professor Jerry Mitrovica (jxm@eps.harvard.edu) and about the application process to Emily Bowman (ebowman@fas.harvard.edu).
