Oboe, Assistant Professor, Full-time, Tenure-track

The University of New Mexico is seeking a tenure track Professor of Oboe. This Assistant Professor will teach courses in applied oboe, literature, and pedagogy at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  They will recruit and maintain a studio of highly skilled undergraduate and graduate music students in oboe performance and music education and take an active role in building and maintaining high level oboe sections in the University orchestras and bands.  They will assist with recruitment in the woodwind area and develop strong relationships with school music programs, local youth ensembles, and private instructors. They will coach and develop chamber ensembles and perform in the resident faculty wind quintet and maintain an active schedule as an oboe performer.   Other teaching duties may be assigned in areas of secondary expertise such as music history, music theory, ethnomusicology, music business, music technology, music & public policy, or general education courses.

Minimum Qualifications: 
- Doctorate in Music to be completed by the beginning of the appointment. 
- Two years of teaching experience at the collegiate level (including graduate or teaching assistant positions).
Preferred Qualifications: 
- Demonstrated excellence as an oboe performer.  
- Demonstrated excellence as an oboe instructor.  
- Understanding of appropriate sequential instruction for music majors.  
- Demonstrated ability to recruit undergraduate and graduate oboe students.  
- Two years as a member of a professional ensemble (such as symphony orchestra, military service band, or professional chamber music ensemble).  
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.  
- Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to scholarship and vision for future creative work and/or performance activity.
- An area of secondary expertise (such as, but not limited to music history, music theory, ethnomusicology, music business, music technology, music & public policy, or general education).
Application Instructions    //Interview/Audition: Finalists will be invited to the University of New Mexico to interview and audition for the search committee and administration. Applications must include: • A signed letter of application that addresses the listed qualifications and the candidate’s interest in teaching at the University of New Mexico (attached to cover letter tab). • A detailed curriculum vitae including a list of courses or subject areas previously taught or within the candidate's ability to teach. • 3 letters of recommendation. • A statement that addresses: 1) pedagogical methodology; 2) strategies for recruiting and retaining undergraduate and graduate oboe students; and 3) examples of how the candidate will mentor/advise underrepresented populations and the role they will play to enrich a campus culture that values diversity, equity and inclusion. Quarterfinalists will be asked to submit: • 30-minute video of the candidate teaching a private oboe lesson at the collegiate level within the past two years. Semifinalists will be asked for a phone or video interview and will be asked to submit: • A list of 4-5 professional references (with phone numbers and e-mail addresses). Finalists will be invited for a campus interview and will be asked to submit: • Syllabi for a four-year undergraduate course of study and two-year master’s degree study in studio oboe that includes appropriate etudes, solo repertoire, and orchestral excerpts.
Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
