Summary

The position of faculty requires an individual who can provide excellence in teaching, interested in both their students and their subjects.  The candidate must be committed to the centrality of a Trine University education. The faculty should have a broad understanding of appropriate academic programs and potential future directions; be flexible, visionary, creative and energetic; and want students to excel and take pleasure in their success. Duties and Responsibilities

  • During Program Development:
    • The faculty is responsible for the program's compliance with requirements of ACOTE Standards.
    • Creating a formal evaluation mechanism for objective assessment of the student's performance.
    • Assist the Program Director and OTD team in creation, review, and submission of the ACOTE self-study application.
    • Develop content specific to faculty’s practice area to meet teaching requirements.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Assisting with continuous programmatic review and analysis to assess data to improve instructional and program quality.
  • During Program Delivery:
    • Promote OT program and OT profession to potential students and community.
    • Contribute to the Trine University's greater community with scholarship and service leading to professional growth and development, which may include publications, presentations, participation in conferences and seminars.
    • Perform additional duties and assignments as prescribed by the Program Director, Dean and/or the Vice President for the College of Health Professions.
    • Ensuring that the OTD program supports students to develop experiences that reflect the sequence and scope of content in the curriculum design and allows for the development of in-depth knowledge.
    • Collaborating with other departmental faculty to ensure students are prepared for level II fieldwork experiences, doctoral capstone experience, and to sit for the NBCOT examination.
    • Assess and supervise the student's progress in achieving competencies and in fulfilling course goals, learning outcomes, and instructional objectives.
    • Assist with research and capstone advising as assigned.
  • Faculty Duties:
    • Teach the standard faculty load of eighteen (18) semester hours per academic year.
    • Provide students with a course syllabus.
    • Record class attendance.
    • Submit absentee and deficiency information to Academic Support Services via the Intranet site.
    • Post and maintain a regular schedule of at least ten (10) office hours per week—one office hour shall be scheduled per week for each credit hour of instruction.
    • Assist students with academic deficiencies.
    • Assist the program director in departmental functions.
    • Participate in developing or implementing the department strategic plan.
    • Advise prospective and current students about curriculum and career opportunities.
    • Attending faculty meetings and participating in faculty committees.
    • Student recruiting, and retention (in conjunction with Admissions).
    • Provide students with activities that assist with their overall professional development and growth.

Qualifications/Required Education

  • A doctoral occupational therapy degree from an accredited program is required.
  • An earned, post-professional doctoral degree from a USDE recognized institutionally accredited university (PhD, EdD, DSc or equivalent) is preferred.
  • An occupational therapist licensed in the state of Indiana with an understanding of and record of excellence in contemporary clinical practice.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years documented experience as an occupational therapist, preferred experience in behavioral health.
  • Teaching experience in occupational therapy education is preferred.
  • Documented scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning) is preferred.
  • Understanding of the role of the occupational therapy assistant.

Salary

Rank and salary will be based on qualifications.
