Job Summary:

Take that next step in your hospitality career as one of our catering supervisors. Join the team responsible for supervising and coordinating food related services for events held at the Memorial Union and other locations. As a catering supervisor, you will lead food preparation and catering setup for events ranging from receptions to buffets to plated dinners. You will mentor student team members in their catering production work and training. You will also assist with other dining-related efforts, such as inventory and taking steps to ensure we have a safe, sanitary dining experience behind the scenes and in our front-of-house. We host a wide spectrum of events from weddings to tailgates to breakfast meetings. This means no two days are the same.

Responsibilities: Oversees daily food service operations and performs food preparation activities in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals.
  • 30% Assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
  • 5% Develops and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
  • 30% Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
  • 15% Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
  • 15% Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • 5% Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures

Food service, restaurant, hotel experience, and/or customer service experience preferred but not required.

License/Certification:

Work Schedule:

Schedule will vary based on events. This position is eligible for a night pay differential of $2.50 per hour for hours worked between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am. This position is also eligible for a weekend pay differential of $0.80 per hour for hours worked between 12:01 am on Saturday and 12:00 midnight on Sunday.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
