Job Details
A full time, tenure-track position in Psychology at the Assistant Professor level is available beginning in the fall semester of 2025 at St. Lawrence University. We seek an individual with background and specialization in Clinical and/or Counseling Psychology. The successful candidate will teach Abnormal Psychology and courses in their area of expertise; they may also teach other courses such as Introductory Psychology. The teaching load is three courses per semester.
Sponsorship of undergraduate research projects is expected; opportunities for course release may be earned through this mentorship (https://www.stlawu.edu/offices/psychology/student-research). Interested candidates may be able to teach in the university’s First Year Program, our residential living/learning program (https://www.stlawu.edu/offices/first-year-program). Additionally, numerous other opportunities exist to mentor undergraduates, both within and outside the department, including working with students in the CSTEP and McNair Scholars programs (https://www.stlawu.edu/offices/cstep-and-mcnair). Approximately 65-85 students choose to declare a psychology major each year. We also co-sponsor a Neuroscience Major with our Biology Department.
The successful candidate will join a department of 12 full-time faculty members and two academic support people who are passionate about supporting our liberal arts curriculum through diverse and inclusive pedagogies and scholarly agendas. Both the University and Psychology department are committed to diversity among its faculty, staff and students. Such commitment ensures an atmosphere that is diverse and complex in ways that are intellectually and socially enriching for the entire campus community. Applications by members of all underrepresented groups, as well as from individuals with experience teaching or working in a multicultural environment, are encouraged. St. Lawrence University is an Equal Opportunity Employer. (See the diversity statement at: https://www.stlawu.edu/offices/presidents-office/statement-diversity.)
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have their Ph.D. in clinical and/or counseling psychology or a related field by August 15, 2025, but ABD candidates may be considered. A candidate with a PhD is preferred, but we will consider candidates with an EDD or PsyD who meet the needs of our students. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship and indicate strong commitment to undergraduate education at a liberal arts college. We are particularly interested in an individual who has a strong commitment to the diversity of the academic community and can demonstrate this commitment through their teaching, research, and/or service.
Interested applicants must apply online at https://employment.stlawu.edu/postings/3962, uploading all required materials which are defined in the “special instructions to applicant” section. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Candidates may contact the search chair, Dr. Elyssa Twedt (etwedt@stlawu.edu), with any questions related to the search.
All offers of employment are contingent upon the finalist successfully passing a background (including criminal records) check.
