Job Details
A postdoctoral position is available beginning January 2025 for a highly motivated individual to join Dr. Nooshin Estakhri’s research group in the Fowler School of Engineering at Chapman University. Dr. Estakhri's group research interests focus on two main themes: (1) investigating new phenomena and their physical dynamics in the scattering of classical and quantum fields from complex disordered structures and their significance in the realm of quantum optics; as well as (2) new and timely topics in the area of quantum information science which includes proposing and testing quantum control protocols and techniques for solid-state quantum processors particularly quantum dot spin-based structures.

Responsibilities
The postdoctoral researcher will conduct independent research and/or collaborate on multiple research projects; provide guidance and support to undergraduate/graduate students associated with the related projects; document research activities and publish key findings in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals. Successful applicants with theoretical backgrounds are expected to work on analytical and numerical approaches in one or both of the above research themes. Successful applicants with experimental optics backgrounds are expected to work in the laboratory setting, collaborate with other researchers, and be capable of conceptualizing, designing, and carrying out experiments. The role will also involve opportunities for collaboration with other scholars and researchers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- A conferred doctoral or equivalent degree in electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, or related fields is required before the start date of the appointment.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong background and understanding of quantum mechanics concepts and/or a strong background in experimental ultrafast optics.
- Programming experience with at least one of the following programming languages: Python, MATLAB, Mathematica
- Previous research experience on complex disordered platforms (analytical, computational, or experimental) and/or experience with quantum control techniques, quantum gate design, quantum computing, and related technologies
- For applicants with experimental optics lab experience, LabVIEW and MATLAB programming skills are preferred.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree at the time of employment and awarded within the last five years. Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. This position is subject to final budget approval. The salary range for this Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is $66,560-$75,000.
