Job Summary

The Department of Communication at Georgia College is seeking a lecturer in Mass Communication. The person's teaching responsibilities will be to teach Professional Media Writing, Media Literacy, and other Mass Communication courses. Additional preferred qualifications include candidates with a background in sports media including broadcast journalism, and/or radio/TV sports broadcasting.

Georgia College is the public liberal arts college in the University System of Georgia, and is one of three selective institutions within the system. The Department of Communication has 14 full-time faculty members and over 300 majors. The department offers a major in mass communication with emphases in strategic communication (public relations and advertising), journalism, and film/television/audio production. The department also offers a major and minor in rhetoric, and a documentary studies certificate. The department is housed in Terrell Hall, which was renovated in 2020, and contains a state-of-the-art broadcast studio, along with a radio station and podcast studio.
This position carries a non tenure track status.

Responsibilities

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
Teaching Responsibilities
- Full-time instructional load teaching in areas of expertise within the academic discipline
- Regular course meetings and instruction
- Mentoring Students
- Other teaching responsibilities

Knowledge and ability to convey current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline.

Faculty employees also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
A Ph.D. or terminal MFA in Communication or a related field at the time of the appointment is expected.
