Job Description
The Scholarly Communication Librarian provides leadership and support in the growth and maintenance of scholarly communication services at Bell Library. This librarian cultivates partnerships within the library and across campus to promote these services and provide outreach and education in areas of scholarly communication, open access, and open education. The librarian stays current with emerging technologies and research practices relevant to scholarly communication and participates in strategic planning for scholarly communication initiatives to further library and university goals. The librarian also belongs to an instruction team providing information literacy sessions, research assistance, and other learning support.

Responsibilities
- Works to grow scholarly digital collections at the Bell Library
including oversight of the TAMU-CC Repository. Liaises with campus
units to solicit, archive, and promote use of scholarly content in
the repository. Supervises the Institutional Repository
Specialist.
- Works in close cooperation with campus units on issues,
programs, and initiatives related to scholarly communication.
Provides outreach, education, and consultations for faculty, staff,
and students on scholarly communication topics. Creates, updates,
and maintains web pages, research guides, and workshops to support
this outreach and education. Areas of focus include, but are not
limited to, open content sharing, open access, and author services
such as author rights, copyright guidance, creative commons
licensing, impact, and researcher profiles.
- Provides leadership, vision, and support for the Library's open
education initiatives in collaboration with various stakeholders.
Advises faculty in the discovery, creation, dissemination,
adoption, and evaluation of open and affordable course content.
Maintains current awareness of developments in the field of open
education
- Provides reference assistance through various
channels.
- Serves on an instruction team providing information literacy
sessions, consulting with students, maintaining subject guides, and
exploring opportunities for online point-of-need tutorials.
Consults on collection management issues.
- Increases professional competence through formal or informal
study and professional development activities and is encouraged to
develop a record of scholarship/creative activity.
- Serves on library, university, and/or professional
committees.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited
program. Degree must be conferred at the time of
appointment.
- Knowledge of open access, open educational resources, the
research process, current issues in scholarly communication and the
role of libraries and librarians in supporting scholarly
practices
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to
successfully prepare and present reports and
presentations
- Ability to collaborate productively with faculty, staff, and
students
- Evidence of a deeply held commitment to customer
service
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of relevant experience in an academic library
environment
- Demonstrated proficiency with digital content management or
repository systems, rights management, and academic publishing
practices
- Evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, and
initiative
- Evidence of creativity in developing products and
services
- Analytical and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage long-term projects successfully
- Familiarity with one or more major descriptive metadata
standards (Dublin Core, EAD, METS, or others)
- Experience with supporting faculty in using or creating open
educational resources
- Experience providing reference services in an academic library
setting
- Experience providing information literacy
instruction
- Demonstrated contributions to the profession with scholarly
publications and/or presentations and active participation in
professional organizations

Minimum Salary: $55,000 annually for Assistant Librarian rank. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience and is paid on a monthly basis over the appointment period.
This position is open until filled. Review of applications will begin on November 4. Start date can be as early as Fall 2024 and as late as Spring 2025.
