Temporary Staff Position. Salary range: $18.00 to $20.00 per hour. Normal work hours vary, 25 hours per week. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Performs regular inspections of facilities, and fire and life safety equipment and systems to locate hazardous conditions and fire code violations, determines corrective actions necessary to bring properties into compliance with applicable fire codes, laws, regulations, and standards, and explains these measures to the facility representative. Produces detailed reports of fire inspections performed, fire code violations observed, and recommended corrective actions. Inspects and test fire protection and/or fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and AED’s to verify that such systems are installed in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations and standards. Coordinates with fire safety vendors for approved repairs of fire and life safety equipment and systems.
Responds to fire alarm activations and fire-related incidents on campus. Serves as a liaison with responding authorities having jurisdiction and provides logistical support in returning campus to normal operations. Serves as an alternate emergency operations center representative for Emergency Support Function-4, staffing the CCU Emergency Operations center, when necessary.
Assists with the regular conduct of residential facilities fire exit drills, monitors and evaluates evacuation procedures. Assists with fire prevention education activities and initiatives for campus staff, faculty, and students.
Assists the CCU Fire Marshal with acceptance tests and inspections of newly installed fire protection systems according to applicable codes and ordinances.
Assists campus stakeholders with special event planning for the safe and appropriate use of fire/combustibles and applicable permitting of vendor-provided mechanical devices. Works major campus events to ensure appropriate fire prevention standards and coordinate with contracted medical operations personnel for first aid/medical transport services.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and minimum of five (5) years experience as a fire inspector or related field. Must possess a valid SC driver’s license. Must be a certified International Code Council Fire Inspector 1 or successfully obtain the ICC Fire Inspector 1 certification within 12 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Current International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector 1 Certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Possess generalized working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; generalized education in firefighting at the minimum level of Fire Fighter 1. Knowledge of fire alarms, fire suppression systems and the International Fire Code. Microsoft Office and other inspection software reports. Must be able to use calculator, computer and peripheral equipment, copier, machines, mops/brooms, telephone, tools, two-way radios, vehicles, chemical meters, & AED’s.
