Job Details
The School of Science and Mathematics at Emporia State University seeks to hire a tenure-track (assistant or associate professor rank) professor of Physics Education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach physics courses for our physics education licensure program and provide innovative leadership to promote physics education as a career choice for incoming students interested in science education.
- The successful candidate will also be involved in the design and teaching of Physics courses appropriate for other majors that require a background in physics such as chemistry and biology as well as pre-professional programs such as pre-med and pre-physical therapy.
- Beyond providing high-quality teaching, and innovative physics teaching methods, this position’s responsibilities will also include working with our SMART21 coordinator to recruit students seeking to pursue teaching licensure in physics, working with our Teacher’s College to promote science education, assessment of student learning in physics and physics education, and necessary reporting to the Kansas State Department of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Physics Education, Physics or very closely related field by the time of hire (August 2025).
- They must also have sufficient course background, experience, and interest to teach a range of courses from Introduction to Engineering, College Physics I & Lab, College Physics II & Lab, Modern Physics, Intermediate Physics, Advanced Physics Lab. Interest and ability to supervise student research projects across is also expected.
- The ability to teach courses in Statics, Dynamics, Light, Digital Electronics, or Robotics is also highly desirable.
COMPENSATION:
- Salary: $56,948 - $75,931 annually
- Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
