Job Summary
Responsible for providing swimming instruction at the University's recreational facilities. Advanced Swim Instructor may be required to coach the master's swim team. Ensures the safety of participants through direct supervision and communicates with parents and participants before and/or after sessions
Responsibilities
1. Plans, coordinates and teaches “Learn-to-Swim” sessions
2. May coach master's swim team
3. Performs mid-session and final evaluations
4. Cleans teaching area after swim lessons
5. Completes all necessary records and reports
6. Maintains contact with parents or guardians before and/or after lessons and through email and/or phone conversations
Required Qualifications
Other Required Qualifications
Basic Instructor - current America Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
Advanced Instructor - USA Swimming Coach certification, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, or Swim, USA Swimming Coach Level 2, US Master's Swimming coach certification, or a combination
Required Experience
Basic Instructor - lifeguard or swimming instruction experience
Advanced Instructor - extensive experience in swimming instruction and/or swim coach
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, lifejackets, etc.
Ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
