Associate Professor of Educational Psychology [Tenured Scholar]

Job Description

The Department of Educational Studies (www.edst.purdue.edu) within the College of Education at Purdue University seeks a senior tenure-track scholar at the associate professor rank in Educational Psychology, for a 9-month position starting in August 2025. We seek a faculty colleague whose innovative and productive scholarship centers on one or more of the following areas: (a) cognitive, self-regulated learning, and/or learning strategy processes; (b) personal-social development and learning; or (c) motivation and engagement. We expect candidates to have a demonstrated record of success seeking extramural research funding.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and maintain a strong line of scholarship with an emphasis on cognition, learning, development, and/or motivation contextualized in school and/or informal learning environments.
  • Build on an existing program of competitive, externally funded research.
  • Teach a variety of courses in our graduate programs (2/2 load) in areas such as personal and social development, cognition in learning contexts, culture and cognition, and/or motivation.
  • Guide and mentor doctoral students in their area of expertise, contributing to dissertation committees.
  • Contribute to and engage in service to the program, department, college, and profession.

Required Qualifications

  • Hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational Psychology or a closely related field (e.g., Learning Sciences, Applied Developmental Psychology)
  • A strong, established record of research and publications, appropriate to rank.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing a program of research and a strong record of external funding.
  • Evidence of post-secondary teaching excellence of educational psychology-relevant courses within undergraduate and/or graduate preparation programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to successfully mentor doctoral students and junior faculty, as appropriate.
  • Meet qualifications for appointment with tenure at the associate rank.

The Faculty of Educational Psychology and Research Methodology program area are committed to advancing knowledge through their scholarship and preparing scholars to be leaders in research that addresses significant educational and psychological problems. Our internationally recognized faculty members offer students strong, individualized mentoring and opportunities to develop their skills to design and conduct research. The Educational Psychology program offers a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Educational Psychology and Research Methodology, and a Master of Science with a concentration in Educational Psychology and Research Methodology. Both are residential programs.

The scholar will join a department that has nationally and internationally known faculty engaged in the discovery, application, and dissemination of new knowledge centered on three key themes: Educating Diverse Learners, STEM Learning, and Effective Teaching.
