Job Description Summary

The Coordinator of Internships and Employer Relations is responsible for coordinating internship and experiential learning activities, serving as a central source for identifying, developing, and promoting internship opportunities; supporting the matching process between student interns and employers; facilitating placement of students in internship positions; managing employer recruitment inquiries and requests; collaborating with individual academic departments to enhance existing internship programs and assist in the development of new programs. Collaborate with Partnerships and Economic Development ( PED ) staff and other College offices and departments as appropriate to promote and facilitate student internship placement.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent formal training in a related field.
  • Four years of related experience in developing internships and/or developing and maintaining community partner relationships with businesses, non-profits, and government agencies required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Coordinate and maintain partnerships with businesses, non-profits, and government agencies to create internship and experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Promote new and existing internship programs to students; collaborate with Program Director of Career Development and Internships to ensure dissemination of information to faculty.
  • Identify students for placement in appropriate internship assignment/position.
  • Collaborate with PED staff and other College offices and departments as appropriate to promote and facilitate student internship placement.
  • Review and approve or decline career services database employer account requests. Enter employment engagement notes for approved employer accounts and reason(s) for declined employer accounts in the career services database.
  • Communicate with employers of placed experiential learning students to develop subsequent placement opportunities.
  • Collect and track student placement data.
  • Conduct surveys of the department’s programs and events; provide analysis of feedback.
  • Coordinate employer recruitment requests to the College.
  • Identify, develop, and monitor current experiential learning sites for student placement.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for employer-sponsored events.
  • Provide leadership and support for College-wide internship and career workshops and fairs.
  • Coordinate, market, and facilitate events for employer-student networking.
  • Coordinate and implement the marketing plan for promoting experiential learning opportunities and activities.
  • Collaborate with other College offices and departments as appropriate to promote and facilitate student internship placement.
  • Participate in local, regional, and national student employment-oriented professional organizations and networks.
  • Inform the campus community of local and national internship trends and activities.
  • Remain current and skilled in the use of Navigate, Colleague, Owl Link, Amazon Web Services ( AWS ), the College email system, and other technologies or software required to guide students through all aspects of career and internship preparation and searching (i.e., Career Coach, College Central Network, Symplicity CSM ).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with community partners, businesses, non-profits, and government agencies.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with community organizations, public and private agencies, community college leadership, faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Skilled in use of career technologies including, but not limited to: Career Coach, College Central Network/Career Services Central, Resume Target, and Symplicity CSM .
  • Ability to network with local, regional, and national resources.
  • Familiarity with employment law and employment recruiting trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, assess, and interpret a variety of program details aligned with programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, and marketing skills.
Job Requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
