Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Games, University of Utah Asia Campus

Details

The University of Utah Division of Games invites applications for non-tenure-track, career-line lecturer positions to expand our international team. Successful applicants will teach courses in our undergraduate BS in Games degree at the University of Utah Asia Campus (UAC) in Songdo, Incheon South Korea (see details of UAC at https://asiacampus.utah.edu/). Initial appointments will be at the rank of assistant professor, lecturer with a term of two years and the potential for renewal. More senior faculty will also receive longer-term appointments. All instruction and interaction with students and faculty will be in English. No knowledge of the Korean language is required.

The Division of Games within the College of Architecture and Planning is a world leader in games education, with consistently top-ranked programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Division's faculty includes artists, computer scientists, designers, games studies scholars, and social scientists who collaborate to teach and conduct research. The Division of Games is building major new program strengths in teaching and research/creative scholarship, expanding our course offerings at the Utah Asia Campus, and are excited to engage students at UAC in the process of changing the world through games. If you are interested in joining us to create ideas that advance our understanding of games, to share those ideas with our students, our community, and society, and to apply those ideas to change society for the better, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Applicants for career-line, lecturing positions should hold a terminal degree in a games-related field (e.g., Ph.D. in Computer Science, MFA in Art). Successful candidates are expected to teach in-person courses across the undergraduate Games curriculum to students on the Utah Asia Campus. As such, successful applicants will have broad knowledge of the practical aspects of game development. However, applicants with background in any of the areas relevant to the Division's undergraduate curriculum are encouraged to apply. In addition to teaching, candidates are also expected to contribute to university and professional service, which may include, for example, collaborative work to expand our curriculum, outreach to local industry and government partners, or recruitment efforts with high schools and potential students across Asia.

Career-line lecturing faculty positions focus on teaching. Research and creative activity are appreciated but not required.

We anticipate an initial two-year appointment with renewable appointments at the UAC upon satisfactory performance reviews. Salary is commensurate with experience. All U Asia Campus employees participate in a standard Korean pension program governed by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Korea. Employer matches 100% of employee's monthly contribution. For more information, please visit the Korean pension program at National Pension Service of Korea (NPS). In addition, all employees qualify to receive an end of service benefit funded by the U Asia Campus after 12 months of continuous employment. Eligible employees accrue approximately 1/12 of their annual salary at the end of each year of service and distribution of the benefit is subject to Korean rules and regulations. Note: These positions require relocation to South Korea; housing expenses are covered for UAC employees who meet specific visa requirements. In addition, some personal and professional travel expenses are provided by the UAC. For more details about day-to-day life at UAC, please review https://www.global.utah.edu/asiacampus/faq/ and https://asiacampus.utah.edu/life-in-korea/
