The Department of Individual, Family and Community Education (IFCE) in the College of Education & Human Sciences (COEHS) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in the Nutrition & Dietetics Program beginning August 2025. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.

The UNM Nutrition & Dietetics Program has a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and a Dietetic Internship (DI), both accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), and a Master of Science (MS) Program in Nutrition. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels and provide advisement to graduate students. The candidate is expected to maintain an active research agenda, as broadly defined in our department and university.

UNM is the state’s flagship research university as well as a Hispanic-Serving Institution classified as a Carnegie Research University with Highest Research Activity. UNM also has strong connections with 23 tribal nations located within New Mexico. As such, successful candidates must be committed to working with broadly diverse student and community populations.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Doctorate degree in Nutrition or closely related field by start date, August 11, 2025.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by start date, August 11, 2025.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience teaching Nutrition at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Experience working with students of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience teaching hybrid and online courses. 
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities. 
  • Evidence of the potential to establish a scholarly research agenda. 
  • Experience in grant writing and administration of grants. 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Nutrition & Dietetics Program. Some of the courses may include Nutrition for Health, Human Nutrition, Methods in Nutrition Education, Management in Dietetics, Energy Nutrients in Human Nutrition, Vitamins and Minerals in Human Nutrition, Methods in Nutrition Research, Nutrition Research and Writing, and Clinical Nutrition Assessment and Skills.
