Assistant/Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Clinical Mental Health Counseling

 

Southeastern Oklahoma State University Department of Behavioral Sciences invites applicants for a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

 

SUMMARY: Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (1) teaching graduate level counseling courses face to face and online; (2) teaching courses with Clinical Mental Health Counseling content, including but not limited to: Orientation to Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Group Counseling, Personality Assessment in Counseling, Psychopathology and Treatment Planning, Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling, Social and Cultural Diversity Issues, Substance and Behavioral Addiction Counseling, Consultation, Administration, and Program Evaluation, Pre-Practicum, Practicum, and Internship; (3) supervising graduate level students in the program; (4) participating in professional, program, department, school and university committees; 5) participating in advising, scheduling, and admissions activities (6) participating in research activities with publications specific to counseling. (7) Candidate will be expected to utilize technology and will occasionally teach 7-week online courses. (8) Teaching load is three courses per semester (Fall and Spring).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Teach all courses as assigned.  

 

Teach some courses in an accelerated 7-week, online format  

 

Create and/or “maintain” course syllabi in accordance with CACREP Accreditation guidelines.  

 

Maintain well-organized standardized Canvas platform for specific courses.  

 

Complete Quality Matters (QM) Online Instruction Training Modules  

 

Maintain 10 regular posted on-campus office hours per week.  

 

Serve on a limited number of Southeastern committees.  

 

Regularly communicate with the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program Director, CMHC Coordinator, and Department Chair.  

 

Maintain membership in counseling-identified professional organization(s).  

 

Regularly attend counseling-identified professional conferences.  

 

Maintain professional license and/or certification. Remain in compliance with all Southeastern policies and procedures.

 

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (FUNCTIONS, DUTIES)

 

  1. Attendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended upon to report to the assigned duty station at the scheduled time. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments. Communication and Contact: The employee communicates effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside of the University. Relationships with Others: The employee works effectively and relates well with others including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the University. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working environment. Safety: Employee works safely, attends safety training offered/required, and follows appropriate safety rules and regulations. In relation to level of NIMs training completed, participates in incident management preparation, and performs incident duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

 

REQUIRED: Ph.D or Ed.D in Counselor Education or related field. Will consider ABD with completion of dissertation by January 2025.

PREFERRED: The preferred candidate will be from a CACREP-ACCREDITED institution, with three or more years of experience, and a licensed or licensed-eligible professional counselor. If the preferred candidate is licensed in another state and offered the position, the candidate must seek licensure in Oklahoma or Texas.  Candidate needs to provide evidence of effective interpersonal skills, as well as knowledge and application of skills as a Counselor Educator. The preferred candidate will have experience in supervising practicum or internship students. Additional courses may include: Pre-Practicum, Psychopathology, Group Counseling, Substance Abuse Counseling, and/or Couples and Family Counseling. Preferred candidates will also have experience working with ethnically and culturally diverse populations. Visiting instructors will be considered with the possible option of modifying employment status from temporary to regular full-time.

 

Southeastern Oklahoma State University, founded in 1909 as a teacher college, continues the strong tradition of producing outstanding educators for southeast Oklahoma and north Texas.  Student enrollment on the campus(s) is approximately 5,500 and the campus is situated in rural Oklahoma.  The main campus is located in Durant, Oklahoma, which is 80 miles north of Dallas, Texas, and 150 miles southeast of Oklahoma City. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The preferred start date is January 2025. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
