Position Overview
The Front of House Manager is responsible for overseeing front-of-house operations for Mitchell Hall, including volunteer and student staff management, box office coordination, and patron services during performances. They ensure a smooth, safe experience for all attendees while promptly addressing any issues that arise. As a member of the University Productions staff, the Front of House Manager reports to the Director of University Productions. They act as the House Manager for all Mitchell Hall productions and the Box Office Manager for the College of Fine Arts and Design Ticket Office. This role requires working frequent evenings and weekends, with flexibility being key to success
Job Duties
- This role manages student workers and volunteer ushers, overseeing ticketing, audience management, and patron concerns.
- The Front of House Manager will coordinate with Box Office staff to ensure proper signage, seating arrangements, and the resolution of any ticketing issues.
- Acting as a liaison with the stage manager during performances, the FOH manager ensures front of house performance needs are met and that communication with backstage runs smoothly.
- They will respond quickly to any front of house issues or emergencies.
- The FOH Manager is responsible for accurate financial reporting, documenting ticket sales, and ensuring that all funds are properly disbursed to the appropriate accounts.
- The role involves enforcing emergency procedures in compliance with OSHA regulations to ensure the safety of patrons and staff.
- The Front of House Manager conducts training sessions for ushers, attends final dress rehearsals, and prepares House Management reports after each performance.
- They collaborate on marketing and publicity for Mitchell Hall productions to enhance audience engagement.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in job related field plus 5+ years of work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires work experience with leading, planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment. Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in arts management, theatre or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in box office management, event coordination, or front-of-house operations. Experience supervising and scheduling staff or volunteers. Familiarity with ticketing software and systems (knowledge of VBO ticketing systems is a plus). First Aid and CPR trained.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
The ideal candidate for the Front of House Manager position will possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with excellent verbal and written communication abilities. They should be able to handle stressful situations with professionalism and diplomacy while resolving ticketing and patron issues efficiently. Strong accounting and reporting skills are essential to manage daily sales and prepare final box office statements for event settlements. Proficiency in social media management and digital marketing for event promotion is a plus, along with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently, making sound decisions when needed. The candidate should be knowledgeable about safety protocols and emergency procedures and have a customer-service-oriented mindset with a friendly, approachable demeanor. A willingness to work evenings and weekends, as required by the performance schedule, is also necessary
