Job Summary
Student Counseling & Psychological Services at Auburn University seeks candidates for the position of Student Counselor . The Counselor is responsible for providing counseling and psychological services for students with mental health issues and providing information regarding mental health services and programs.
This is a full-time, on-site position, operating on a standard five-day work schedule.

Essential Functions
- Providing counseling to students, including individual therapy, group therapy, family consultations, and crisis referral.
- Documenting, reporting, and maintaining confidential records and information from counseling-related services including individual therapy, group therapy, family consultations, and crisis referral.
- Evaluating and developing comprehensive treatment plans for individuals including assessment, diagnosis, coordinating treatment with other professionals, and providing community referrals when indicated.
- Clinically supervising graduate practicum students; may clinically supervise unlicensed senior staff clinicians.
- Planning, developing, and presenting outreach presentations, workshop programs, and educational seminars related to mental health issues and available services to students, staff, faculty, and other campus stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Education, Counseling, or relevant field.
Level I – Master’s degree
Level II – Master’s degree plus 2 years of experience in providing counseling and psychological services.
Level III – Master’s degree plus 4 years of experience in providing counseling and psychological services.
License and Certification Requirements:
- For social workers, must hold Licensed Master Social Worker ( LMSW ) by date of hire.
- Licensure as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker ( LICSW ) in the state of Alabama is required within 24 months of hire.
- For counselors, must hold Associate Licensed Counselor ( ALC ) by date of hire.
- Licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ) in the state of Alabama is required within 24 months of hire.
Minimum Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
Minimum License and Certifications
