About the University, the College and the Department

Located in southern New Jersey in the greater Philadelphia metropolitan area, Rowan University is a comprehensive public institution with 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in seventeen colleges and schools, including two independent medical schools. Rowan University was recognized as a Carnegie-classified research institution in 2017 and is now the nation’s fourth-fastest growing research institution. Rowan University’s vision includes becoming a Carnegie-classified R1 institution within 3-5 years.

A national leader in engineering education, the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering (COE) was founded in 1995 and quickly gained national recognition for its innovative multidisciplinary, project-based approach to engineering education. Since 2017 Rowan Engineering has experienced extraordinary growth and momentum, doubling both its full-time faculty and student population, launching engineering PhD programs, and quadrupling research expenditures. In 2017, we opened the doors of Engineering Hall and completed a full renovation of our original home, Rowan Hall. These projects tripled our available space and provided the College with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. We currently enroll over 1,500 undergraduate and over 250 graduate students in six departments and are home to four research centers.

ExEEd was launched as a new Department in 2016 to cultivate a collaborative environment for engineering education research, implement educational innovations in the classroom, and lead the College’s undergraduate engineering educational mission in the first and second years. ExEEd also oversees the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering B.S. in Engineering Entrepreneurship, a novel undergraduate degree program that blends engineering with business skills. The department is currently focusing on continued expansion of our rapidly growing engineering education PhD program while maintaining our strong tradition of innovative undergraduate education.
