Utah Valley University is seeking an Assistant Professor - Tenure Track - Information Technology. The Department of Information Systems and Technology (www.uvu.edu/ist) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Information Technology to begin August 2025.

The Information Systems and Technology Department offers ABET-accredited degrees in BS Information Technology and Information Systems. The department also offers degrees in Cybersecurity, Information Management, and Business/Marketing Education.

Summary of Responsibilities


  • The information technology faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate courses, such as Windows Server Administration, data communications and networking, router management, introduction and advanced system administration in Linux, computer architecture, scripting, cloud computing and architecture, enterprise network architecture and administration, and Internet of things.
  • The faculty member participates in accreditation assessment processes and engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession.
  • In addition, the faculty provides service at the department, college, and university levels.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications


  • Graduation from an accredited institution with Ph.D. or D.Sci. in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, or closely related academic field from a regionally accredited institution. ABD may apply, but the degree must be completed by August 15, 2025.
  • Professional or academic experience with advanced IT topics (cloud computing, IoT, systems engineering, etc.).
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in Information Technology topics.
  • Evidence of scholarship (e.g., publication of research in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, or presentations at academic or professional conferences).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of related information technology, data networks, systems engineering, systems administration, and cybersecurity teaching, training, and/or industry experience.
  • Relevant industry certifications, such as ITIL, CCNA, CISSP, ISACA, AWS, Google Cloud Professional - Cloud Architect, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, GIAC, and/or CISM preferred.

  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content pertinent to Information Technology.
  • Knowledge of online teaching environments and learning course management systems.
  • Knowledge of accreditation outcomes assessment processes.

  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.

  • Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.
  • Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability and performance.
  • Ability to use a classroom learning management system, such as Canvas.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and to assist internal (e.g., the department chair, academic advisors, and program coordinators) and external (e.g., advisory boards and industry partners) stakeholders in maintaining effective programs.
  • Ability to conduct scholarship and service that align in the field of Information Technology.
