Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is seeking a Professional in Residence - Respiratory Therapy.
Under the supervision of the department chair, the Professional in Residence - Respiratory Therapy will provide instruction in clinical, lab, and didactic respiratory therapy courses, and plans and prepares approved courses of study with measurable objectives for each course. Teaching may include online, hybrid, face-to-face, and live-streaming modalities, along with the ability to apply these effectively in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting. Faculty may be assigned to develop, articulate, and teach new courses as required. This position may assist with curriculum and program review, revision and assessment, student evaluation and advisement, participation in admissions, participation in accreditation activities and program self-study, as well as activities related to personal and professional development.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Teaches classes based on qualifications and departmental needs. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials (mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary. Evaluates instruction and learning through written, verbal, practical, and performance testing.
- Maintains a desirable classroom environment. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms and laboratories by demonstration, discussion, visual aids, etc.
- Maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Establishes and maintains office hours and counsels students during this time and other times as needed.
- Provides service to the department and community.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a master's degree appropriate to discipline.
- Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.
- Must have a minimum of three years clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Teaching experience in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
Licenses or Certifications
Licensed RRT in the state of Utah; must have proof of licensure.

- Knowledge of respiratory therapy curriculum and accreditation standards.
- Knowledge of current respiratory therapy education trends.
- Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, and evaluation and assessment of instruction.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and learning platforms such
as Canvas.
- Skills in developing and presenting educational programs.
- Skills in the use of technology and creating professional presentations.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Skills in problem-solving, decision-making, and time
management.
- Ability to work with effectively with a wide range of constituents with various backgrounds.
- Ability to plan and anticipate potential changes in various settings and situations.
- Ability to multi-task effectively and work independently.
- Ability to create curriculum and utilize various resources to teach assigned courses.
