Salary/Pay Range : $62,000 - $64,000. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

The Visual & Performing Arts Department (VAPA) at the University of Colorado

Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for a tenure-track position of

Assistant Professor of Painting and Emerging Media to begin Fall 2025. VAPA seeks a dynamic artist-scholar-teacher whose practice is centered in both painting and hybrid tactics that bridge traditional processes with emerging digital technologies.

The successful candidate will teach courses across the Visual Art program, including but not limited to lower- and upper- division classes in painting and digital media as well as foundational courses in 2-D foundations, drawing, and digital art. In addition, the individual will have opportunities to develop innovative courses in the Visual Art area and VAPA Interdisciplinary Core Curriculum that reflect their creative and scholarly interests.

The Visual Art Program at UCCS emphasizes contemporary art practice (cross-media creative exploration) and exists within the larger interdisciplinary orientation of the department (art history and visual culture, music, theatre/dance, and museum studies). The successful candidate will join a faculty that spans the arts in a curriculum enriched by engaged scholarship, diversity, experiential learning, and methodological innovation.

We are interested in candidates who:
  • Have a strong on-going artistic practice centered in painting and emerging media.
  • Have a strong foundational understanding of traditional and contemporary painting techniques, materials, processes, and theory.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of digital design software and tools.
  • Employ hybrid tactics bridging traditional and digital media.
  • Maintain an innovative research practice that challenges the edges of our discipline.
  • Critically engages with emerging technologies with an awareness of the history and relevant theoretical concerns for new media.
  • Have a growing national and/or international exhibition record.
  • Have successfully engaged and supported a diverse range of students at the college/university level.
  • Are excited about working collaboratively across the arts.
  • Are engaged in evolving pedagogical and research practices that thoughtfully respond to and serve the diverse and changing artistic landscape of the 21st century.
Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching five studio art courses a year in our painting, drawing, digital art, and foundations curriculum
  • Actively participating in service at the departmental, college, university, CU system, and community levels
  • Maintaining a rigorous creative and/or scholarly practice at the regional, national, and/or international level

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

· MFA in Painting or a closely related, cross-disciplinary visual art practice.

· Two years of teaching experience at the college level.
