Job Position Description

The Department of Educational Studies [www.edst.purdue.edu] within the College of Education at Purdue University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Counseling Psychology in the counseling psychology doctoral program. The counseling psychology doctoral program in Counseling Psychology confers the PhD degree.

The Purdue Counseling Psychology program is a dynamic program with selective admissions and small, full-time cohorts. The program affords exciting opportunities to partner with local agencies and campus initiatives around global issues, career development, health disparities, and student access and success. According to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, Purdue University is a “very high research activity” institution. Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Maintain a strong research program and publish in peer-reviewed journals, while building and/or maintaining a competitive, externally fundable/funded research program. Research interests are open.
  • Teach courses (both face to face and online) in the counseling psychology program at the undergraduate and graduate levels (2/2 load). Teaching interests are open.
  • Serve on program, department, and college committees and participate in other College of Education activities as appropriate, which might include forming collaborations with faculty, mentoring students, attending speaker series, and contributing to program area and departmental activities and meetings.

 

Qualifications

Applicants for the positions must hold an earned doctorate in counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program by the position start date and demonstrate evidence of the ability to teach. Evidence of relevant research expertise and experience is expected. Candidates should be familiar with both online and face-to-face instruction. In addition, applicants should (a) demonstrate a history of scholarly productivity, (b) be licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in the state of Indiana, and (c) demonstrate a history of, or potential to attract, external funding.

Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

August 18, 2025

This is a 9-month tenure-track position with a starting date of August 18, 2025. Review of applications will begin on November 11, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.
