The Laboratory Manager/Instructor will report to the department Chair and will coordinate and monitor various aspects of the biology laboratory including lab inventory, by purchasing chemicals, supplies and related safety equipment, while maintaining and performing minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. The Laboratory Manager/Instructor will ensure that the work areas in the classroom and lab settings are in a safe, clean and organized condition by maintaining OSHA, EPA and other governmental agencies standards, and will record and coordinate removal and storage of hazardous and medical waste. The Laboratory Manager/Instructor will monitor chemical storage, prepare chemicals for labs and maintain MSDS. They will enforce safety procedures/codes in research and student teaching laboratories, will have required fire safety drills and maintain drill records to assure student and employee safety. The Laboratory Manager/Instructor will teach biology courses as assigned, teach laboratory safety procedures for student researchers, monitor graduate laboratory teaching assistants, assist instructors with lab test preparation/proctoring, assist students with assignments, explain concepts/principles, and communicate with science faculty regarding special needs and maintenance of laboratory facilities. The Laboratory Manager/Instructor will perform any other duties essential to laboratory management within the scope of the position.

Qualifications

Masters degree in the Sciences is required. Additional certifications within the scope of the position are preferred.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to safely operate machines such as spectrophotometers, autoclaves, incubators, fume hoods, electrophoresis, gas chromatograph, analytical balances, propane burners, drying ovens, gas cylinders, etc. Must have knowledge of OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) procedures, chemical safety, Bio-hazardous and Bio-safety hygiene procedures.
