Scope of Job

We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's student body as a Lecturer of History beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year.

The ideal candidates will have specialized in U.S. History. Preference will be given to applicants who have a minimum of one year's experience teaching at an institution of higher education. Applicants should have a Ph.D. from an accredited university in hand by the time of appointment, evidence of effective teaching, and experience and/or interest in online course development. Letter of interest should address candidate's qualifications for the position and how those qualifications would contribute to student success at UTRGV. Indicate that you are applying for position of 3YA Lecturer in U.S. History. Primarily responsible for teaching lower-level history survey courses (such as U.S. History I and II, World History I and II, Mexican American History I and II) and, if needed, an occasional advanced course.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualification to be considered for this position is a Ph.D. degree in History or a related field of study with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in History from an accredited institution of higher education. ABDs with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in history from an accredited institution will be considered, but the doctoral degree should be in hand by time of appointment August 31st, 2025.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
