FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT 

The Department of Anthropology at Hunter College of the City University of New York invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology specializing in either 1.) medical anthropology with a possible ethnographic focus on global health, biomedical institutions, or alternative/traditional health practices, ideally attending to issues of inequality based on race, gender, class, immigration status, sexuality, disability, ethnicity and/or tribal status; or, 2.) environmental anthropology with a possible ethnographic focus on the climate crisis, science studies, migration, environmental policy, activism and justice, cultural or political ecology, Indigenous knowledge and practice, or human-nonhuman interaction. In either field, we are open to all themes broadly relating to questions of power and inequality. Geographic specializations open. The appointment will begin Fall 2025, subject to administrative and budgetary approval. The duties include teaching Anthropology courses at all levels and sharing responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology at the time of appointment. Applicants must have teaching experience and a commitment to work in multicultural education settings.
