Summary: The Psychology Department at Grand Valley State University seeks a full time, tenure track Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2025. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or a closely related field. Candidates who specialize in areas that will diversify expertise in the department and complement scholarly interests among current faculty are especially encouraged to apply. We are seeking candidates who wish to participate in creating professionally-relevant, high-impact learning experiences for undergraduate students (e.g., research, community collaborations).

Required Qualifications and Education:
  • Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology or closely related field
  • Demonstrated potential for successful college-level teaching in Psychopathology, Developmental Psychopathology, Introductory Psychology, and Research Methods. Opportunities may also include teaching a senior capstone course or other courses in the candidate’s area of specialty
  • Demonstrated potential for successful research that complements other faculty and may have a positive impact on the discipline and society
  • Ability to integrate teaching, scholarship, and service activities in a manner that utilizes the candidate’s expertise and benefits their students, university, and community
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others in an open, flexible, and culturally respectful manner
  • Evidence of one’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. This could be demonstrated by an applicant using inclusive teaching practices, conducting research relating to minoritized populations or social inequality, engaging in community-based outreach to minoritized and underserved communities, or engaging in other forms of DEI-infused teaching, scholarship, and/or service .
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
  • 1-2 years of applied clinical experience is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with collaborative approaches to teaching, research, and service
  • Professional interests with potential to engage the West Michigan community
Responsibilities: Duties each semester include a 9-credit hour teaching load, consistent engagement in scholarship, undergraduate advising responsibilities, other service within and beyond the department, and a significant focus (equivalent to 3 credit hours) of additional activities in teaching, scholarship, and/or service depending on the candidate's interests and the department’s needs. The successful candidate will have access to shared research space and an undergraduate subject pool.

Minimum Starting Salary: $70,000; commensurate with experience.
