Description
The Department of Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor to begin in Fall 2025. The Department is housed within the Moody College of Communication, and offers a broad range of courses in media studies, production, and screenwriting leading to B.S., M.A., M.F.A, and Ph.D. degrees. The Department of Radio-Television-Film is one of the few programs in the country that is consistently ranked in the top ten in both media studies as well as production and screenwriting. Moody College of Communication, one of the largest, most comprehensive communication colleges in the country, includes programs in Advertising and Public Relations, Communication Studies, Journalism and Media, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.
This faculty position will focus on video game studies, broadly defined. Research concentrations in video game history, culture, and/or industry are all welcome. A global perspective within these various concentrations is also appreciated.
The media studies program in the Department of Radio-Television-Film centers humanistic methodologies and critical cultural studies approaches. In addition to a growing array of resources and student groups on campus dedicated to video games and game culture, including the Alienware Longhorn Esports Arena and Lounge and Longhorn Gaming, the city of Austin is a hub for video game industries and development. We seek a faculty member who can expand our current undergraduate and graduate course offerings in the field of video game studies and build local connections with video game artists and industries.
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. at the time of the appointment. Applicants should have a promising or established program of research and publication, a commitment to teaching excellence, and an interest in advising and mentoring graduate students.

Applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, a writing sample (academic journal article or similar, no more than 10,000 words), statements on teaching and research (each statement no more than 500 words), and the names and contact information for three references. Letters of recommendation will be requested of finalists.
