Description
General
The position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.
Purpose
This is a position will lead an emerging research program in Hydrogeology/Water Resources.
Responsibilities
- Perform original and independent research, including fieldwork and other analytics related to water resources, groundwater flow, water quality, recharge and other aspects of the water cycle that influence long-term water resource availability. Supervise a research team toward excellence in research, including project management, reporting, project resources, etc.
- Build and manage a research program by developing new funding opportunities, writing proposals to Federal and State agencies, industrial groups, foundations and others, and by interacting with funding agencies.
- Communicate research findings to funding agencies and the public through journal articles, conference proceedings, presentations at scholarly meetings, and other vehicles.
- Teach courses and develop curriculum as needed in the areas of hydrology and hydrogeology at the Jackson School of Geosciences. Mentor students toward graduation.
- Provide service to professional societies, the Bureau of Economic Geology, and the Jackson School of Geosciences given availability and need.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Geosciences, Hydrology/Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or related technical discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
20 or more years industry and/or academic experience, including supervising or managing complex research projects. Exceptional record of peer-reviewed publications and funding success. Strong track-record of project leadership success with interdisciplinary team. Experience in engagements with government, academic, and industry stakeholders. Effective presenter. Ability to seek out and develop high-level industry, academic, and government contacts. Research Professor candidates will need to demonstrate a record of scientific achievements nationally and internationally.
Salary
$165,000 depending on qualifications.
Working Conditions

- Occasional weekend, overtime and evening work to meet deadlines
- Occasional interstate, intrastate, and international travel
