Position Announcement
The Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at the University of Oregon invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Transgender Studies to start Fall 2025. We are interested in scholars whose research and praxis foreground interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, comparative, and intersectional voices, challenges, and lived experiences of trans communities as they intersect with issues of race, class, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, health, and nationality, among others.
Department or Program Summary
The Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the UO is a dynamic and collegial interdisciplinary department with award-winning researchers and teachers. The department offers a wide range of classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels that examine gender as a social construction category at the intersection of sexuality, race, class, citizenship, and other social differences. The department's interdisciplinary curriculum features a broad range of feminist inquiries, from queer studies, women of color and decolonial feminisms, migration and citizenship, social and environmental activisms, and others.
The WGSS department invests in the success of each new member and strives to support faculty in successful and impactful careers while maintaining a work-life balance. Junior faculty in WGSS will be supported through the transition to tenure, including reduced service expectations and access to national and university-wide mentoring programs, such as NCFDD Faculty Success Program Tuition Grant, writing circles, as well as new faculty mentorship, and training in teaching through the Teaching Engagement Program. Junior faculty in WGSS will have ample opportunities to work with and receive support from scholars with shared research and teaching interests in other units across campus, such as Ethnic Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, History, Media Studies, and many others
Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. by Fall 2025 in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies or
related fields, including but not limited to Cultural Studies,
Sociology, History, Anthropology, and Media Studies.
- Areas of research and expertise to focus on transgender studies
and transgender lived experiences.
- Evidence of commitment to scholarly excellence, as seen in
publications, grants, fellowships, and/or research collaborations
appropriate to their field and rank.
- Evidence of teaching experience or potential for teaching
excellence in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies is
required.
- Commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and
staff from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated excellence in transgender studies and
intersectional and interdisciplinary scholarship.
