Job Description
The University of West Florida Department of Psychology invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, beginning August 2025. The position includes the following duties: 1) teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate (MA) levels, 2) establishing an active program of research involving undergraduate and graduate students, and 3) service to the department, college, university, and profession. The teaching load is 3:3 (three 3-credit courses per fall and spring semesters). Preference will be given to candidates with a child and/or adolescent psychology specialization.
The successful candidate for the position will have completed a doctoral degree from an APA- accredited program and show strong evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and research at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Successful candidates will also demonstrate potential for success in pursuing extramural funding and the ability to supervise, mentor and involve students in research. This person will be responsible for (1) teaching undergraduate (e.g., Abnormal Psychology, Theories of Personality, Assessment, Intro to Clinical and Counseling Psychology) and graduate courses (e.g., Developmental Psychopathology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapies for Children/Adolescents, Human Sexuality) as well as supervising clinical practica and internships.
The Department of Psychology has 700+ undergraduate majors and 80+ graduate students in MA programs in Counseling Psychology and Industrial-Organizational Psychology. The university serves a student population of approximately 15,000 and is located on a 1600-acre campus that is designated as a nature preserve, a few short miles from beautiful beaches, in a community with a temperate climate and Florida's lowest cost of living. Position Qualifications
Minimum requirements for this position include having earned a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited university. The applicant should be licensed or license eligible to practice in the State of Florida. All but dissertation (ABD) candidates will be considered if they can demonstrate excellence in teaching and/or research.
Preferred Qualifications
Area of specialty is clinical or counseling psychology with a focus on child and/or adolescent psychology.
