Summary

VCU's Parking & Transportation Services oversees 13 parking decks and approximately 44 parking lots, totaling 13,700 spaces; and on average 500+ revenue producing events annually. This is accomplished with approximately 50+ Parking and Transportation employees.

Parking and Transportation Services is currently seeking a Special Event Representative to join the team. The Parking and Transportation Special Events team is responsible for coordinating and running nearly 200 events per year that can range from 10 attendees to as many as 8,000 for men's basketball. Each event may require 2 to 10 employees to run and there can be multiple events per day, especially during peak times. The Special Event Representative will help with daily customer service duties, as the Special Events leadership will often be on duty at various events, and is crucial to providing effective customer service and operational support to the daily operation of the Special Events team.

Office duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage office tasks including filing, document preparation, and maintaining supplies
  • Handle phone calls, emails, and appointment scheduling for staff
  • Perform data entry, maintain records, and manage office databases
  • Greet guests, handle inquiries, and provide general assistance
  • Prepare meeting rooms, set up equipment, and oversee office equipment maintenance
Event duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Collecting credit card payments
  • Providing traffic control and safety patrols at the assigned deck location
  • Providing uniform interpretation and enforcement of parking regulations
  • Providing customer service to patrons of the Parking & Transportation Department
  • Providing customers with information concerning Parking & Transportation
Minimum Hiring Standards
  • Must be dependable and available to work a flexible schedule that will vary based on occurrence of scheduled events
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Basic computing skills are necessary
  • Excellent communication and writing skills required
  • Professional, courteous, highly organized, and a quick learner
  • Able to handle and effectively prioritize multiple projects at once
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
  • Intermediate to advanced computing skills preferred
  • Previous experience in the parking industry or customer service is a plus
