Position Description

The Office of the Provost at the University of Mississippi invites applications for an Instructional Assistant Professor and Director of Multi-Disciplinary and Interdisciplinary Studies. This fulltime, non-tenure-track position requires a PhD or other terminal degree and at least three years of experience in higher education program administration, preferably with multi- or interdisciplinary studies program administration. The successful candidate should be involved in collaborative work with academic units with returning learners, off-campus and/or online students and programs; demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills; and possess knowledge and experience working with program assessment. Experience teaching at the college level is required with a preference for experience teaching both face-to-face and online courses.

Position Details

Appointment: 12 Month
Assignment Type: Non-Tenure Track

Responsibilities for the position include:
  • Leading the Multi-Disciplinary Studies (MDS) and Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) degree programs by providing vision and strategic planning;
  • Supervising, coordinating, and administering some of the following aspects of the MDS and IDS degree programs including, but not limited to, recruitment, admissions, academic advising assessment of prior learning, and graduation;
  • Supporting success for program faculty, staff, and students through the creation of a sense of program identity and an inclusive academic home distinct to each program;
  • Curriculum development for both programs;
  • Developing program assessment metrics and preparing periodic reports;
  • Responsible management of program resources (including budget management) that serve curricular needs;
  • Serving on both the MDS and IDS degree program committees as well as representing the program to the broader campus, alumni, and public communities;
  • Oversight of recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of instructors of the MDS and IDS degree program courses in their teaching responsibilities for the program;
  • Teaching five courses per year, with a typical distribution being two courses per fall and spring semester and one course for the summer, for the MDS and IDS degree programs;
  • Representing the University of Mississippi MDS and IDS degree programs in the international and national academic communities through membership in professional organizations, participation in scholarly conferences, and contributions to academic publications; and
  • Overall responsibility for the supervision, administration, curriculum development and course planning for both the MDS and IDS degree programs. The Director will be committed to the professional development of instructors teaching in the programs as well as fostering relationships and collaborations within the university. In addition, the Director oversees academic advising for all IDS degree program students. The Director will also be responsible for teaching relevant courses for both programs, including, but not limited to, the Multi-Disciplinary Studies Capstone, Introduction to Interdisciplinary Studies, and the Interdisciplinary Studies Capstone
Minimum Qualifications

This full-time position requires a PhD or other terminal degree at the time of appointment and at least three years of experience in higher education program administration. Experience teaching at
the college level is required.
