POSITION: ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS & STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
LOCATION: OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
JOB SUMMARY:The Assistant Vice President of Operations and Strategic Initiatives will serve as a key advisor to the President of New Jersey City University, playing a critical role in driving university-wide strategic initiatives and ensuring operational efficiency. This role will focus on executing high-priority projects, aligning departmental goals with the university’s long-term vision, and supporting the Office of the President in the day-to-day operations of NJCU. The AVP will work across all levels of the institution, providing leadership and coordination to ensure that the President’s agenda is advanced effectively and efficiently.The position reports to the President and is full-time exemptt.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership:
- —Collaborate with the President to design, plan, and execute strategic initiatives that align with NJCU’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement new programs, policies, and procedures that drive operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Identify and analyze key trends in higher education and recommend initiatives to maintain NJCU’s competitive advantage.
- —Serve as a liaison between the President’s Office and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring alignment on strategic goals.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of the President, including managing timelines, resources, and deliverables for high-priority projects
- Facilitate communication and collaboration across departments to ensure the successful execution of initiatives.
- Monitor and report on the progress of key projects and initiatives, addressing any challenges or barriers to success.
- Develop and maintain operational policies, procedures, and systems that enhance the productivity and efficiency of the President’s Office.
- Provide high-level support to the President by preparing reports, presentations, and other materials for internal and external audiences.-
- Support the President in decision-making by conducting research, analyzing data, and offering strategic recommendations.
- Manage special projects assigned by the President, ensuring their timely and successful completion.
- Coordinate with other senior leaders to foster collaboration and ensure the effective execution of institutional initiatives.
- Represent NJCU at meetings, conferences, and events to promote the university’s strategic vision and initiatives.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably within higher education or a related field.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven track record of leading strategic initiatives and managing complex, cross-functional projects.
- Strong knowledge of operational best practices, project management, and strategic planning principles.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and discretion when handling sensitive matters.
- Experience working in a higher education environment with a focus on institutional strategy or operations.
- Familiarity with New Jersey City University, the broader higher education landscape in New Jersey, and local community engagement.
