The Humanities Center is calling for applications from tenured faculty candidates external to Texas Tech University to be considered for our Scholar-in-Residence program. The Center is particularly interested in nominees actively engaged in interdisciplinary research that addresses academic questions beyond the scholar’s primary field of study.
Nomination Criteria:
A tenured faculty member at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in any field of humanities research, with a strong publication record and an international scholarly reputation.
Preference will be given to scholars whose current research promotes connections with the Center’s 2024-2025 programming theme, Celebrating Indigenous Resilience: Commemorating the Red River War and Honoring the Vibrancy of Native American History and Culture on the Southern Plains. (For full the theme description, see https://www.depts.ttu.edu/provost/humanities-center/annual-theme.php.)
Expectations for Position:
This position is full-time and benefits eligible. The scholar will be paid a salary of $40,000 for residency at the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock, Texas between February 1 and May 1, 2025. The scholar must be able to be physically present in Lubbock by February 1, and while, ideally, the scholar will be here for the entire period, we require at least ten weeks of residency in Lubbock.
The Humanities Center will provide an office and computer, as well as library and special collections privileges for the duration of the scholar’s stay at Texas Tech. While the Center does not provide housing or transportation to Lubbock, we can assist with finding local accommodations.
The scholar-in-residence will lead three sessions (90 minutes each) of a monthly discussion-based workshop on their current research project(s). The scholar will also be asked to present a 45-minute public talk delivered to a Texas Tech and community audience in April 2025. We also expect the scholar’s attendance at Spring 2025 programming events.
Interested applicants should send a 1000-word statement of interest (including a research plan for the duration of the residency) and a current CV to the Humanities Center at Texas Tech at humanitiescenter@ttu.edu by 11:59pm on November 22, 2024. The Humanities Center’s faculty advisory board will decide on a final candidate by December 13, 2024.
Please direct questions about this program to Dr. Michael Borshuk, Director of the Humanities Center, at michael.borshuk@ttu.edu.
