Scope of Job:
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as a Lecturer of Biology beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year.
Collegiate HS: These positions will be assigned to teach undergraduate core curriculum courses at a UTRGV Collegiate High School in Edinburg, McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville and/or another UTRGV campus. The UTRGV Collegiate High School provides academically talented students in grades 11th and 12th the opportunity to earn dual credit while beginning academic study that will lead towards the completion of a baccalaureate degree. All courses follow the same curriculum and assessment guidelines as other UTRGV courses taught in this discipline. All academic and institutional policies governing instruction, assessment, grading, confidentiality, mandated reporting, and departmental participation apply to courses taught as part of this program. The UTRGV College High School is located in various RGV locations (Edinburg, McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville; therefore, the ideal candidate must be able to travel to this location to deliver instruction. Candidate will be based out of either Edinburg or Brownsville UTRGV campuses.
Faculty hired to teach collegiate high school courses may be required to participate in supplemental training focused on working with high school-aged college students. Trainings may include but are not limited to: Effective teaching methods for working with high school-aged college students; maintaining student engagement with coursework; and,safety protocols and best practices for working with high school-aged college students. Department/College Background The School of Integrative Biological & Chemical Sciences (SIBCS) administers undergraduate degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and graduate degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology. Minimum Qualifications:
(M.S. in Biology or a related area from an accredited university)

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
All faculty at UTRGV are required to exhibit a commitment to Teaching Excellence. Candidates must show experience and qualifications that meet SACS-COC and other departmental/college accreditation requirements.
Teaching: The primary responsibility of Lecturers will be teaching and collaborating with colleagues to enhance student success. Lecturers are expected to implement evidence-based teaching and learning strategies in the classroom and to document their impact. Use of effective activities/pedagogy in the classroom is recommended to engage students, cultivate thinking skills, and motivate interest in the subject. Faculty will be expected to integrate innovative technology and customized learning to maximize student success. Given that UTRGV is a distributed university, faculty may be required to teach online or hybrid courses or teach at different locations.
Service and Scholarship: Although the primary obligation of lecturers is to teach, service to the university and community may be a part of the faculty members' responsibilities. This position does not provide any formal expectation and/or support for scholarship activities. However, UTRGV encourages all faculty, including Lecturers, to engage in scholarship.

Preferred Qualification:
Preferred qualifications for Biology - Collegiate High School applicants include a terminal degree in Biology or a related area (at the level of a Master of Science or above), teaching experience in dual enrollment and undergraduate biology courses, such as prior or current experience teaching General Biology, and experience working with underrepresented students.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days inlength.
