Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Dean, College of Education. The Dean of the College will provide visionary and strategic leadership to elevate FAU's standing as a premier institution for research, teacher and counselor education, and community engagement.
Florida Atlantic University, established in 1961, officially opened its doors in 1964 as the fifth public university in Florida. Today, the University serves more than 31,000 undergraduate and graduate students across six campuses located along the southeast Florida coast and is ranked as a top public university by U.S. News and World Report. The University has earned national recognition for student outcomes, is proudly ranked as the most diverse public university in Florida and is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
FAU is an energetic and fast-growing institution, determined to propel itself to the forefront of innovation and scholarship. In recent years, the University has doubled its research expenditures and outpaced its peers in student achievement rates. FAU is expected to achieve Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education's highest and most coveted Very High Research Activity status (R1) for the next adjustment in 2025.
The College of Education is one of the most diverse in Florida's State University System. The College prepares educators and educational professionals to serve six public school districts, among which are two of the largest and most demographically diverse districts in the nation. The College consists of five departments: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Counselor Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership and Research Methodology, and Special Education, which are taught across three campuses in Boca, Jupiter, and Davie.
The College is also responsible for operating four public laboratory schools, among those A.D. Henderson University School which continues to rank among the best schools in America. The 2024 Niche "Best Schools" rankings placed ADHUS as the No. 3 public elementary school and No. 5 public middle school in the nation.
The complexity and dynamism of the College of Education combined with this unique moment in FAU's history provides an opportunity for the incoming Dean to grow the research infrastructure for a burgeoning contemporary R1 institution, establish meaningful and beneficial internal and external partnerships, identify opportunities to diversify and grow revenue streams, develop a shared vision and strategic plan, and foster a welcoming and inclusive workplace and culture.
The College seeks in its next Dean an accomplished scholar and researcher, committed teacher, talented administrator, and strategic thinker. The new Dean will provide visionary leadership that builds on the College's strengths while working collaboratively with College, University, and community leaders to craft a continued collective and strategic vision that further elevates their impact and reach. The successful Dean candidate will have earned a doctorate and present a distinguished record of accomplishments, commensurate with the rank of full professor.
