The Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University seeks two full-time Clinical Assistant Professors in the Department of Counseling.

Position Numbers:

52757 (NTT) Clinical Assistant Professor in Counseling

53381 (NTT) Clinical Assistant Professor in Counseling

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching clinical courses and utilizing generalist teaching skills for core counseling curriculum.
  • Academic (individual and group) advising.
  • Clinic administration.
  • Clinical supervision of students.
  • Supporting departmental program projects and events.
  • Providing service to the School and University.

This is a renewable, non-tenured position with an initial one-year appointment beginning August 2025.

Required qualifications include:

  • A doctoral degree in counseling or counselor education (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Clinical supervisory experience and/or a supervisory credential.
  • Commitment to diversity and ability to infuse diversity into all classes.
  • Teaching experience in counseling-related courses, including clinical courses and counseling core curriculum.
  • Demonstrated identity as a counselor educator and clinician.
  • Clinical experience in the field.

Preferred qualifications:

  • LPC licensure Experience managing a counseling clinic
  • Experience teaching ethics courses
  • Marriage, couple, and family counseling experience
  • School counseling experience
  • Addiction/substance abuse counseling experience
  • One to three years teaching experience
