Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities:

The SQL Programmer/Data Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day development and maintenance of data structures and queries for the electronic research administration systems. They will develop databases, tables, views, stored procedures and any other database structure in support of the data reporting and analytics for the OVPRI. They will also develop database integrations between the research administration system and other external data destinations, like ODS, SOM data warehouse, etc. Finally, the data manager will monitor and optimize query performance and access control.

Typical Duties:

Maintain reporting database environment
Create and augment tables, reporting views, and stored procedures to
Create and maintain integrations with other systems
Monitor and optimize application query performance
Maintain database access control
Create datasets to support Tableau visualizations
Write ad hoc SQL queries
Monitor and optimize application query performance

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Database development experience
Query development using SQL Server Management Studio
Knowledge of ETL and data manipulations languages
Problem solving skills
Good verbal and written communication skills
The candidate should have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
SQL development using SQL Server
ETL tool usage using SSIS
Reporting or visualization tool usage using either SSRS or Tableau
