COMPENSATION: $68,333.10 - $90,325.85/year + Benefits, Exempt, Faculty Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Instructor/ Assistant Professor of Commercial Driver's License/Heavy Equipment Operation/Driver's Education is responsible for developing and teaching courses within the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Heavy Equipment Operations (HEO), and Drivers Education (DE) division of the Workforce Development Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.
- Teach course material in an academic setting such as permit preparation or CDL endorsement trainings.
- Teach course material in a laboratory (hands-on) setting such as behind-the-wheel drivers ed, behind-the-wheel CDL, and/or heavy equipment operations.
- Participates in the development of and contributes to the quality of College-level curriculum in the area of study.
- Evaluates student performance and submits appropriate attendance, grades, and reports.
- Participates in professional development, as appropriate.
- Completes reports and presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.
- Coordinates with Department Faculty and administration on topics such as scheduling, road exams, DOT physicals, and DOT drug screening.
- Supports students as a liaison of student supports.
- Instructor will be knowledgeable of Iḷisaġvik services and will advertise and make available student supports such as van service, DMV road exam vehicle usage, tutoring, online test proctoring, and scholarships.
- Able to travel to North Slope villages for VEWFD courses and activities as available.
- Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
- Demonstrated experience with distance delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
- Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
- Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
- Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
- Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certifications and / or experience related to job description.
- Must have a clean driving record, an Alaska Commercial Driver License, and have held that license for at least 1-year.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:
- Associates degree or equivalent.
- Have appropriate certificates, journeyman-level, or experience, in commercial driving and/or heavy equipment operations.
- Have a minimum of 400 hours of training experience in a post-secondary environment.
- Possess a current State of Alaska Driving Instructor Permit.
- Valid Alaska A/CDL license with all operator endorsements.

Life Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.
